The following is a small sample of reviews posted over many years. The long gap is due to being closed for 2020.
Rest assured the high standards set at Coachmans Cottage are still in place.
My wife and I would certainly endorse every compliment payed to beautiful Coachman’s Cottage in the previous reviews.
During our journey home we spent much time discussing when and how soon we could plan a second visit, I think this says everything.
Thank you Penny for your warm welcome, we could ask for nothing more, a perfect stay in your charming cottage.
Thanks for you kind words, and the comment about the conversation on your journey home raised a giggle here!

We do not normally do reviews but felt this cottage really deserved one. We stayed here at the beginning of July and found it to be a very comfortable cottage in a lovely area. Penny was a very welcoming host with good ideas for days out. We would definitely recommend.
Many thanks for taking the time to write this, Penny.

We spent a delightful week in this comfortable and well situated cottage in June. Yes the kitchen is tiny but it is equipped with good quality fitting and implements and we could cook 3 course meals.
The acid test of a good cottage is what happens when things go wrong. When a problem arose with the hot water boiler, Penney's and Peter's response could not be bettered and things were quickly fixed.
Thank you for taking time to post this review. I am delighted that you enjoyed your holiday in Coachmans. Unfortunately the heating boiler failed during your stay at 6.30 pm... fortunately we have an excellent engineer who came out at 8.30 am the following morning and fixed it. No need to bring in additional heaters as you were here during the heatwave but again my apologies for the lack of hot water for the 14 hours over night. Best, Penny.

We spent nine nights at Coachmans in May and it truly is special, delightful both inside and out. The garden area is lovely and the inside is immaculate, equipped to meet every need, very comfortable, and beautifully showcases some very nice antiques. The bed is the most comfortable I slept on in a month of traveling and the only one I would say rivals my own at home. There is a separate dressing room next to the bedroom which is so convenient, all the clutter and suitcases can be kept separate from the sleeping area. Very comfortable bathroom and fully stocked kitchen. A lovely, inviting and comfortable living room.
Steeple Ashton itself is the prettiest of villages and full of friendly people. Walking around seeing all the cottages and larger homes and beautiful gardens is a very happy way to spend an hour or two. The village shop is very well stocked, the village pub (Longs Arms) has delicious food, and again, very friendly people in both places. Don’t miss seeing St Mary’s, the elegant church.
It was such a treat to stay in this charming cottage in a charming village, truly the highlight of our month in the UK, visiting from the US. Penny is a wonderful host and could not be more accommodating, helpful, and easy to work with making advance arrangements. If I’m ever fortunate enough to be able to return to the UK, I will want to stay at Coachmans.
Thank you for posting your review. Your visit was very overdue, having to cancel the initial planned visit in 2020 due to the Covid lockdown. I am so very pleased that it proved worth the wait. Penny.

We've just had a wonderful stay in Coachman's cottage which was ideally situated for visiting our family and friends. The cottage itself is very well equipped and we slept so well in the huge, comfortable bed. The antique furniture added interest to the already characterful building which is situated in a very picturesque village. We enjoyed exploring the locality and were particularly impressed by the historic church building. The well stocked community shop was a bonus and, as well as food supplies, we even found lovely presents for the family. We haven't stayed in this part of the world before but we'd definitely like to return. When we do, we'll certainly contact Penny who is such a friendly host. Thank you, Penny, for a lovely stay.

Our umpteenth visit to Steeple Ashton staying at Coachmans Cottage (12+ years) and it never fails to delight. The welcome is warm and personal, nothing is too much trouble for Penny and Peter, and we had a lovely week just enjoying local pleasures, nearby Corsham a highlight with a great independent bookshop. Longs Arms in Steeple Ashton has had a makeover and the Village Shop is a great amenity. Thank you, we're already looking forward to our next stay. Tony & Sue Mansell

We stayed a the cottage at the end of March/beginning of April and the property was ideal for the two of us. As ex-locals we knew the area well and the cottage was well placed for visiting friends and family. Well furnished throughout and with a very comfy bed. Penny was an excellent hostess and kept the cottage immaculate.

I stayed over the bank holiday weekend for a couple of nights and really loved Coachman’s Cottage. As in previous reviews the cottage is beautifully maintained and provisioned with all the necessary equipment for a comfortable stay. Penny was very pleasant and living nextdoor, always available should any issues arise, which they didn’t. Steeple Ashton is a lovely ‘picture postcard’ village but has a great community feel and this is a great location as a base for various points of interest, such as Longleat, Stonehenge, Avebury standing stones, Cheddar Gorge and many others. I would highly recommend Coachman’s.

We had a great week at Coachmans Cottage in July 2022 whilst visiting family in the village. It was a real "home from home" - spacious, well equipped, beautifully clean and tidy and full of wonderful antiques. We loved having the outdoor space too. Many thanks for everything.

Recomendations for days out...Longleat, Bath, leave car at Trowbridge and take the train. Lacock. Avebury. Salisbury, leave car at Trowbridge and take train. Wells, Cheddar Gorge, then not much further to Weston Super Mare. Bourbon on the water. Stonehenge. This cottage is superbly furnished with a high degree of attention to detail. Plenty of hot water. We were there in December, the cottage was always warm. Homemade marmalade, chocolate cake, eggs, bread all there waiting for us on arrival. Penny, the owner, lives next door, so is always on hand to sort any problems, we had none. Coachmans Cottage is well situated to explore Wiltshire and beyond. Highly recommended.

11 out of 10!
Pennys cake/Peters attention to detail/you never stop trying. 11 out of 10, it constantly exceeds our expectations, for the 12th year. Try visiting Winchester by train from Westbury; Corsham a short drive away; the lovely Priory Church in nearby Edington...

Kitchen tiny but well-designed, Beautiful bedrooms with dreamy beds. Delighful colour-schemes. Hosts both caring and discreet. They will “go the extra mile for you”.

Cottage of your dreams.
What a lovely cottage Coachmans Cottage is! We have recently had a holiday there and as soon as we stepped inside we really felt at home. It is spotlessly clean and very tastefully decorated. Penny and her father, Peter are really friendly and work hard to keep Coachmans cottage to a very high standard. We strongly recommend it.

Excellent.
This is one of the best cottages we have ever visited and the welcome pack was more than we have ever received anywhere, all the basics for the first day provided. The cottage is immaculate and very comfortable.
We agree with all the reviews that the owner, Penny, was very helpful giving us details of places to visit and, more importantly, not to visit. The latter sometimes too late, but useful to know for subsequent visits.
The village pub, a proper village local, provided excellent food during the course of our week in the charming village of Steeple Ashton. The locality is a good area for sightseeing with many places worth visiting, including Wells, Frome, Sherborne, Bruton and, if you like touristy places,Bath. For another visit we will try to book for a summer month when there will be opportunities to sit outside in the pretty courtyard garden.

Perfection.
A wonderful holiday awaits you when you come to stay at the Coachmans Cottage. From the moment we arrived in the picturesque village of Steeple Ashton and were shown around the charming cottage we were excited to be staying for several days. The owner, Penny, was so lovely helping us settle in, showing us around the cottage and giving us interesting ideas and information about the local area and places to visit. Even before we arrived Penny was quick to respond to our emails when booking and had also arranged a reservation for us at the nearby village tavern on our first evening. The Cottage has everything you could need to relax and enjoy your stay from extra comfy beds, fluffy towels, bathrobes to a fully equipped, although compact kitchen and bathroom. There are so many delightful extras included which made this such a homely place to stay; from homemade cake and marmalade, fresh bread, milk, butter and eggs, to useful extras including fully stocked basics of hand soap, cleaning essentials, sewing kit and interesting books and games. Even though our stay was in February the cottage remained cosy and warm throughout and although we didn’t need to use them, extra blankets were available and an easy to use electric fire. The cottage has a delightful window seat from which I enjoyed hand writing postcards and watching birds come and go including wrens scurrying around the courtyard for food. Steeple Ashton has a magnificent church and an original village holding cell on the green but is also a great base to visit the many and varied attractions, cities, villages and stunning walks which surround you. We can highly recommend Bath, Caen Locks, Stonehenge, Devizes and Bradford on Avon. A much needed holiday and we are looking forward to returning. Thank you.

Charming, Cosy Cottage Holiday
Penny gave us a wonderful welcome with brownies, fresh bread and home made marmalade. The cottage is lovely, clean and warm and very well equipped. It was a perfect base to explore Wiltshire and admire the splendour of Salisbury, the beauty of Bath and the ancient ambience of Avebury. Thoroughly recommended.
