A Little Piece Of Heaven   5*

We have recently returned from a few days staying at Coachman’s. What a little gem- it has absolutely everything you need and more. It is very tastefully furnished and warm and cosy on grey November days. The local pub is only a short distance away and we were made to feel welcome there and enjoyed the excellent food. Also Meg, our springer spaniel, was spoilt by treats on arrival at Coachman’s and at the pub. Penny and Peter are very friendly and were lovely to chat to and gave helpful advice on places to visit . A lovely welcome pack with home made marmalade and wonderful chocolate cake greeted us on our arrival. If this little gem is so wonderful in November it must be even better at other times of year.

Owner’s Response.. Thank you very much for your lovely comments

What can I say about Coachman’s Cottage. It is everything and more than the website illustrates. Maizey (My Golden Retriever) was offered a warm welcome by Penny and family. The cottage was immaculate, yet held that cozy cottage charm which I so love. The cottage is set in the idyllic village of Steeple Ashton. So lovely to walk through. Every turn you make is a period cottage or building depicting the true English Heritage of the area. We were blessed with some lovely weather. The little well tended garden at the front was very secluded and a sun trap for the morning sunshine we were blessed with. Ideal for our morning breakfast.

Not only is the cottage dog friendly, but there are many dog walks to share in the area. We visited the White Horse at Westbury. It was breathtaking, so much space for Maizey to run freely. You could see for miles. So many more planned for our next visit. Also there are plenty of dog friendly pubs in the area where dogs are welcomed into the bars. So if you are looking for somewhere to stay for a holiday and you want to bring your dog, I can highly recommend Coachman’s cottage. If I could have given this cottage 10 stars I would have done. Looking at our diaries now to plan our next visit.

Coachman’s Cottage was superb, exactly what we were after. So comfortable and everything immaculate and present to a very high standard. Hosts were extremely friendly and welcoming and the chocolate cake on arrival was to die for. Steeple Ashton as a destination is perfect, the pub and local village shop were both excellent. It is allows easy access to all sorts of amazing places to visit, including Bath, Avebury, Devizes, Salisbury and even London by train. Would highly recommend and will definitely stay again when we are in the area.

Response: Thank you so much for your very kind review, we are so pleased that Coachmans Cottage delivered all for you. As well as the places you mention there are a wealth of small and lesser known places of interest to visit in the area including Great Chalfield and Westwood Manor Houses and the delightful gardens at Iford Manor to name but a few. We very much look forward to welcoming you back one day in the future and will be most happy to point you in the direction of more of these locations. Best, Penny

What a little treasure! An absolutely delightful cottage and immaculate in every way A beautiful country cottage in a beautiful English country village. Our hosts were warm and welcoming and the cottage was supplied with all the necessary to get us off to a great start. We were there for two weeks and it was an ideal base to explore the South West from Dorset up to the Cotswolds.
Warm, inviting and a wonderful start to our holiday, Coachman’s Cottage set the scene for us.
Thank you s much Penny and Peter for the privilege of allowing us to stay at your wonderful cottage.
If we ever have the opportunity to get back to Wiltshire this will be the place.

Response: Very many thanks for leaving such a fabulous review. The village is an ideal base for visiting a large area and a 2 week stay does give guests time to explore further afield if they wish. We do hope to tempt you back to our all so “Engish country cottage and village”. Best, Penny

Coachmans in Steeple Ashton is a cozy cottage that was always fun to return to at the end of a busy day of sightseeing. The location is great for visiting numerous gardens and National Trust properties, and Penny and Peter are very considerate hosts. If in the area again, we would love to return!

Coachmans in Steeple Ashton is a cozy cottage   5*

Steeple Ashton and the Coachman’s Cottage are both very lovely. My husband, myself, and our 2 teenage children were very comfortable. Although very quiet and small; (which we were looking for) the village did have an excellent pub to eat at and a shop to pick up everyday items as well as freshly baked goods. There are several walking trails from here. You are in the Cotswolds so everything is a walk or drive away. We also visited Stonehenge and Avebury. Was more impressed with Avebury that Stonehenge but enjoyed both. We also visited LaCock a small town that Penny recommended and enjoyed out time there walking the village and visiting the Abby and church. The trees were starting to blossom and daffodils were in bloom this made the villages picture perfect.

Steeple Ashton & Coachman’s Cottage both very lovely   5*

After visiting the city of London numerous times between 1972 and 2003 and then seemingly forgetting all about England for a complete decade, we were suddenly reminded of the fact that there is still a whole wonderful country left to explore, and so we looked for the best place to stay in southwest England. I think we found it! Coachmans Cottage is an ideal place to call temporary home if you want to experience the very real and enchanting English countryside, to see many of the places you might have heard of or seen on TV in an Agatha Christie mystery. Trust those pictures, Coachmans Cottage is really a dream come true that will make you feel so at home you’ll wish you could stay for good. And you get your own private parking space, too! Penny and Peter are the kindest and most helpful hosts you can imagine. That Award is more than deserved. Steeple Ashton is a charming village about which a complete book has been written (available for reading in the cottage), and the local pub serves excellent food. And if you don’t feel like eating out, you can cook up anything you want in the beautiful and well-equipped kitchen. I could go on for hours about all the lovely places we visited during our stay, but you oughta experience it yourselves! Highly recommended, naturally! Hope we can come back soon…

The best place to stay in southwest England.   5*

Our family had a wonderful stay at the Coachman’s Cottage this past April. We are a family of four with 2 teenage sons. They were comfortable in their own bedroom, and we all easily shared the well equipped bathroom. The kitchen was cozy but had everything we needed, and we enjoyed breakfast and snacks in the cottage many times. The area is absolutely stunning countryside and easy to navigate by car. The pub is quaint and offers food that is not only standard pub fare-we thoroughly enjoyed our meals there. Penny was extremely accommodating-always ready to answer our questions, offer advice or give directions. She even organized a trip to the church to watch the bell ringing in the steeple-it was truly an amazing experience and a nice opportunity to meet the local villagers. When I hear church bells now it has a more meaningful sound to me and brings back good memories of our wonderful time there. It was very easy to take the train to Bath for the day and enjoy the lovely sights there. The other small trips we took were easily traveled by car. Our weather was perfect and we wished our stay had been longer. We have traveled extensively and lived in 6 different countries but our time spent in Steeple Ashton at Coachman’s Cottage will always be remembered as a special experience. I highly suggest a visit.
Response: Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review for “Coachmans”. I especially enjoyed your description of our SMALL kitchen as “cosy”!. It is the guests that makes owning a holiday cottage such fun and it was a pleasure meeting you all and I do hope that we will be welcoming you back to Steeple Ashton one day soon. Best Penny

A wonderful stay at Coachman’s Cottage   5*

…… Coachman’s Cottage is great!
We spent the week at the cottage with our friends Bridget & Gerald, touring the area bell ringing in Wiltshire. As a group of some 25 ringers from Hexham we have an annual week ringing at Churches in different parts of the UK, this year in Wiltshire, so are quite experienced in sourcing accommodation.
Against this background, we can say that Coachman’s Cottage and Steeple Ashton (pub, shop, villagers, etc) compare very highly against accommodation we have used in previous years.
Many thanks Penny for the use of your lovely cottage and the local advice which we found invaluable.

Ring Out The News …….July 2015   5*

We have just returned from spending a wonderful week at Coachmans Cottage. The cottage itself was spotlessly clean and very comfortable, probably the best cottage that we have stayed in.
Set in a picturesque village with pub, shop and village green,it was like a village on T.V’s Midsomer Murders (without the body count)
Very friendly staff in the local pub and shop both a must to visit for food and drink etc.
The Wiltshire countryside is stunningly beautiful and is surely overlooked by most tourists heading south….a perfect place to have a holiday as there is very little local traffic to deal with!
Thanks to Penny and Peter for their helpful suggestions on where to visit… a very memorable stay.

Wonderful Stay   5*

We really enjoyed our stay at Coachman’s Cottage. Its is tastefully furnished with everything you need to make your stay very comfortable. The courtyard garden is very pretty to sit in and jenjoy a glass of wine or two and soak up the atmosphere of what is a very pretty village. Penny,s hospitality is first class, she provides lots of information to make your stay enjoyable. The cottage is perfectly situated to be able to visit lots of interesting places without too much travelling. The local pub is welcoming and serves decent food and the village shop is well stocked. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would have no hesitation in recommending this beautiful cottage in this pretty village. I hope that we can return one day – soon.

Wonderful Week Away   5*

Lovely, relaxing, clean cottage. We stayed nine nights (would have stayed more if it wasn’t already booked!) during a move to a near by home. What a treat to return to Coachmans after a day of working on our house. Comfortable, clean, and nice hot shower! Located in a lovely village with a general store and pub. Truly has everything you need. Thank you Penny and Peter! We will see you around the village!

Relaxing Break   5*

We very much enjoyed our 3 day stay (in early December ’14) at the cottage. It is charming, cosy and very comfortable as well as perfectly located for day excursions. We visited Bath, Devizes, Avebury and Lacock Abbey – finding the countryside beautiful and the towns intriguing and picturesque. We were always happy to return to the cottage after a stop at the village store for provisions and conversation. Penny’s helpful suggestions and pleasant hospitality made our stay very enjoyable. 2 US schoolmates on a UK trip, so much fun!

Response..Thank you so much for the lovely review. You packed so much into 3 days and in December when daylight hours are on the short side too. I am really glad that you enjoyed your stay in Coachmans Cottage, Steeple Ashton and hope that we can tempt you back one day in the future. Best, Penny

Charming Cottage,   5*

Our stay in September ’14 was wonderful. We have stayed in cottages all over the UK but this must rate as Number 1! It is beautifully and sympathetically furnished with every possible thought for comfort and relaxation. The kitchen is perhaps a tad on the small side but is well kitted out so we wanted for nothing.
The village is typically English with a great pub and friendly shop and the whole area is full of amazing places to visit – Cean locks near Devise are a must, Avebury is much quieter than Stonehenge and the actual village is delightful. There are too many National Trust properties within driving distance to mention in this space but suffice to say, we visited a different one most days even managing two on a couple of days! A walk round the village is definitely recommended, there are lots of hidden corners and beautiful cottages and the huge church is well worth closer inspection. I really hope we will be able to return to this lovely cottage sometime so a belated thank you Penny, Peter and Jo for a wonderful week and also, thank you for the lovely Christmas card of the church in the snow. Robert and Jo Barnes.

Response..Thank you so much for your kind review, better late than never…we thought we had lost this one. We do stress that the kitchen is small but with very careful planning it has pretty much everything except a freezer. We really look forward to seeing you again sometime. Best, Penny
